Campervans
If you are tootling around the country in a campervan or towing a caravan, then you only need your car drivers licence. Ain’t no big thing there.
The ironic thing about a car drivers licence in NZ is you can pick up your learners licence without having had any experience on the road whatsoever and scream off in your 260kw V8 Falcon towing a 2 tonne twin axled 38’ caravan with no restrictions (apart from driving between certain hours and a couple of other minor points).
You can drive a small truck on a car licence as long as the Gross Laden Weight is under 4,500 kgs. (4.5 tonnes) If your vehicles gross laden weight is over that, you’ll need a Class 2 Heavy vehicle licence.
